Compare Clueso

Stagewright vs Clueso

Clueso and Stagewright both keep product videos current, at different moments. Per Clueso's public pages, when a PR merges in GitHub, Clueso Agents email you which videos are out of date; you confirm, and a browser agent re-records the changed screens into an editable draft. That auto-update agent is a paid add-on on Enterprise. Stagewright runs each walkthrough on the pull request itself, before merge, posts a check with before and after frames, asks you to approve what changed on purpose, and files what broke as an issue with the video. Clueso is the stronger video editor and has far more polish features and certifications today. Stagewright is built around the engineering workflow: walkthroughs as files in the repo, a verdict on every PR, and regressions in your issue tracker.

What Clueso is, in its own words

Clueso calls itself an “Agentic video creation platform for every team.” Its Agents launched in July 2026 to “automate your whole product video pipeline from start to finish.” In August it added release videos (“When a PR is merged in GitHub, Clueso Agents email you what shipped, which new videos to create and which existing ones are out of date. Confirm it, and the agents record and edit the videos for you.”) and self-updating videos that “re-record only the screens that changed.” Every video arrives as “a fully editable draft inside Clueso.”

How they differ

Timing. Clueso updates videos after a pull request merges. Stagewright checks flows on the pull request before merge. A change that breaks a flow customers use shows up as a failing check on that PR, not as a re-recorded video after the release.

Verdict. Clueso treats a changed screen as content to regenerate. Stagewright treats it as a signal with two possible answers: the change was intended, so you approve the new recording and it publishes; or the product broke, so the walkthrough is filed as a regression with its video, the PR author is assigned, and the fix PR is replayed to prove it.

Where it lives. Stagewright walkthroughs are YAML files next to the code, run locally with the CLI or in any CI, and reviewed like code. Clueso’s scripts live in its editor.

Where Clueso is better

  • Editing and polish. A full video editor with motion graphics, avatars, background music, and AI that “applies zoom-ins, callouts, and spotlights automatically.” Stagewright renders from the script and has no timeline editor.
  • Capture anywhere. A Chrome extension and mobile recordings. Stagewright records web apps from a script, in Chromium.
  • Languages. Clueso publishes counts of 40+ to 150+ languages and re-records the UI in each language. Stagewright’s per-locale recording is new and has no language count to publish.
  • Certifications. SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 on every plan. Stagewright has neither yet.
  • Self-serve today. Public plans from free to $120 a month. Stagewright is in private beta.

Choose Clueso if

  • Marketing, enablement or training make most of your videos, and polish and editing matter most.
  • You want to record by clicking through the app, or record mobile apps.
  • Re-recording after each release is soon enough, and you’re on or considering Clueso Enterprise.

Choose Stagewright if

  • You want to know a walkthrough broke before the PR merges, as a check engineers already read.
  • You want broken flows filed in Linear, Jira or GitHub Issues with the video, and the fix proven.
  • You want the scripts in your repo, run against localhost or VPN-only staging, and reviewed in pull requests.

Using both

They can sit side by side: keep Clueso for polished marketing and launch videos, and use Stagewright for the walkthroughs and help articles that must match the product on every release. Stagewright’s import finds videos embedded in your docs (Loom, YouTube, Vimeo, Wistia and others) and lists them as a course to re-record as walkthroughs, if you want to move some over.

FAQ

Does Clueso check videos on pull requests? Per its public docs as of October 2026, Clueso acts when a PR is merged, by email. We found no documentation of a GitHub check or PR comment, and its help center has no article on the GitHub integration. That may change; Clueso shipped five agent-related changelog entries between July and September 2026.

Isn’t Stagewright just a test runner with video? Every walkthrough is also an end-to-end test of a flow customers use, and that’s deliberate. The difference is what happens next: approved recordings publish to the player and help center, and failures become issues with the video.

Can Stagewright edit videos like Clueso? No. You change the script, narration, slides or brand kit, and the video renders from them. That keeps the video reproducible on every run.
