Compare Scribe

A Scribe alternative for customer-facing guides that stay current

Scribe is built to capture how work gets done inside a company, for ops, IT, finance, HR and training teams, and increasingly as context for AI agents. If that's your job, Scribe fits it better than Stagewright. If you publish step-by-step guides for your own product's customers, the problem is different: the product changes every week and the guides don't. Stagewright records each guide from a script against your running product, checks it on every pull request, and updates the article and video when you approve the change. Per Scribe's public pages as of October 2026, we found no feature that detects when a guide's screens have changed.

Last verified 2026-10-11. Claims about Scribe come from its own public pages, linked below; anything we couldn't find is phrased "per their public docs as of October 2026", which means not documented, not proven absent. What Scribe is, in its own words

Scribe’s headline is “The best teams & AI agents run on Scribe,” with the subhead “Automatically capture how work gets done. Give your teams and AI agents the context to do their best work.” It sells to the people who document internal processes: operations, IT, finance, HR and training. Its newest capture mode, Autocapture, “learns from how you work and documents it.”

When this page applies

Most people searching for a Scribe alternative want another way to write internal SOPs. Stagewright isn’t that. This page is for teams using Scribe, or something like it, to publish customer-facing guides for a product they build and ship often, who find those guides falling behind the product.

Writers we’ve read describe the same thing: the screenshot is easy to retake, but the procedure around it changed too. Stagewright records the steps, the screenshots and the narration from one run of the product, so they change together and are checked together.

Where Scribe is better

  • Documenting any process, in any tool. Scribe captures work across web, desktop and mobile apps you don’t own. Stagewright only records a web product you can point it at.
  • No setup per guide. Click through once and the guide exists. A Stagewright walkthrough is a script, written by an engineer, a coding agent, or drafted from the feature’s code.
  • Enterprise readiness. SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA, SAML and SCIM.
  • Many destinations, including 13 LMSs.

Choose Scribe if

  • You document internal processes, or tools you don’t build.
  • Speed of capture matters more than whether the guide is still right in three months.

Choose Stagewright if

  • You publish guides for your own product’s customers and ship weekly or faster.
  • You want a guide that no longer matches the product to show up on the pull request that changed it.
  • You want the help-center article, its screenshots and its video to update together when you approve the change.

Using both

Many teams will keep Scribe for internal SOPs and use Stagewright for the product walkthroughs customers read. They don’t overlap much.

FAQ

Can Stagewright import my Scribe guides? Not as walkthroughs. Stagewright’s repo scan finds Scribe and other embedded guides and videos in your docs and lists them as a course of lessons to re-record, which a coding agent can draft from the feature’s code.

Is there a free way to try it? npx stagewright init and npx stagewright record work offline with no account, and npx stagewright ci reports pass or fail on a pull request without one. Comparing frames against an approved baseline, approving and publishing need the private beta.
