Compare Videate

Stagewright vs Videate

Videate and Stagewright both keep product videos in step with the software. Per Videate's public pages, its Studio records which element you clicked rather than only pixels, and when the UI changes its agent, Dexter, rebuilds the script, screenshots and voice-over. Updates start when someone hits "refresh" or when a scheduled Batch Update runs. Stagewright runs each walkthrough on the pull request itself, before merge, posts a check with before and after frames, asks you to approve what changed on purpose, and files what broke as an issue with the video. Videate needs no code to write and publishes 50+ languages. Per its public pages as of October 2026, we found no GitHub, CI, approval or breakage-alert feature, and no public pricing or documentation.

Last verified 2026-10-11. Claims about Videate come from its own public pages, linked below; anything we couldn't find is phrased "per their public docs as of October 2026", which means not documented, not proven absent. What Videate is, in its own words

Videate describes a “patented ‘Software Recorder’” that “syncs directly with your application’s front-end code”: “Every workflow step is captured in real time. When your application’s code changes, your videos change with it. All you do is hit ‘refresh.’” Its Studio “grabs more than just the screen. It logs which element you clicked and why it matters, so it can track that same element later,” and its agent Dexter “scans your new build, spots anything that moved, and rebuilds the script, screenshots, and voice-over in minutes.” For whole libraries: “Need to update 100 videos at once? Schedule a Batch Update for Monday morning at 8 a.m. after your product release.”

How they differ

Timing. Videate updates a video when someone asks it to, or on a schedule after a release. Stagewright runs on the pull request, so a flow that changed is known before the change merges, by the person who changed it.

Verdict. Videate treats a changed screen as content to rebuild. Stagewright asks which of two things happened: the change was intended, so you approve the new recording and the player and help article update; or the product broke, so the walkthrough is filed as a regression with its video and the fix PR is replayed to prove it.

Where the script lives. A Stagewright walkthrough is a file next to the code, run with the CLI on a laptop or in any CI. Videate’s recordings are made and kept in its Studio.

Where Videate is better

  • No code to write. You record by using the product in Studio. A Stagewright walkthrough is a script, written by an engineer, a coding agent, or drafted from the feature’s code.
  • Script rewriting. Dexter rewrites the script and voice-over after a change. Stagewright re-records the same script and leaves word changes to a person.
  • Languages. Videate publishes 50+ languages and 100+ dialects. Stagewright records each locale you configure and has no count to publish.
  • Maturity. Videate’s product posts go back to at least 2024. Stagewright is in private beta.

Choose Videate if

  • Training or enablement makes the videos, and nobody should have to touch a repository.
  • Refreshing after each release, or on a schedule, is soon enough.

Choose Stagewright if

  • You want to know a walkthrough changed or broke on the pull request, before merge, as a check engineers already read.
  • Broken flows should land in Linear, Jira or GitHub Issues with the video.
  • You want the scripts in your repo, recorded against localhost or VPN-only staging, and reviewed like code.
