Compare Promptless and Mintlify

Stagewright with Promptless or Mintlify

Use Promptless or Mintlify for your text docs, and Stagewright for the flows, the video and the verdict on the pull request. Promptless reads a pull request (when it opens, by default) and proposes doc changes in your Git-backed docs, with a summary comment on the source PR and screenshots it can recapture. Mintlify's Automations run when a pull request merges in a connected repo and open a docs PR or merge the change. Both edit words, and Promptless edits images. Neither runs the product's flows, records video, or files a broken flow as a regression; Mintlify's own media guide leaves screenshots and video to people. That's the part Stagewright does, on the same pull request.

Claims about Promptless and Mintlify come from their own public pages, linked below; anything we couldn't find is phrased "per their public docs as of October 2026", which means not documented, not proven absent. Two jobs on the same pull request

Docs agents and Stagewright answer different questions about a change.

  • Promptless and Mintlify ask: what does the text need to say now? They read the diff and propose edits to your docs: reference pages, concepts, changelogs. Promptless can also recapture a screenshot when a PR touches the UI it shows.
  • Stagewright asks: does the flow we teach customers still work, and does what we teach still match it? It runs each affected walkthrough against the PR’s preview, step by step, and records it. The answer is a verdict: unchanged, changed on purpose (approve it, and the video and linked article update), or broken (filed as a regression with the clip).

Mintlify’s own media guide states the gap plainly: “Every screenshot you publish is a commitment to update it when the UI changes. Every video becomes outdated when the flow it shows changes.” Its advice is to “Recapture the specific screenshots that changed” by hand. That’s the part to hand to Stagewright.

How they fit together

On one pull request:

  1. Promptless posts a comment linking its proposed doc changes (or, with Mintlify, the docs PR follows when the code merges).
  2. Stagewright posts its Walkthroughs check and comment: which walkthroughs the change affected, with before and after frames.
  3. The author approves the walkthrough changes that were intended. A regression fails the check and is filed with the video.
  4. On merge, the text docs update through Promptless or Mintlify, and the approved recordings publish through Stagewright: the player, the help-center article, the downloads.

Stagewright doesn’t publish into Git-backed docs today. You can embed its player, which always plays the newest approved recording, wherever your docs accept an iframe, or download the MP4, GIF and step screenshots. When you connect the repository, Stagewright reads a Mintlify docs.json or mint.json (and Docusaurus, MkDocs, GitBook, VitePress and Starlight navigation) and turns each how-to group into a course of lessons to record.

When you only need one

  • Only Promptless or Mintlify: your docs are mostly reference and concepts, with few UI flows, and you don’t make product videos.
  • Only Stagewright: your customers learn from a help center (Intercom, Zendesk, Productlane) and videos rather than a Git-backed docs site, and the flows are what go stale.

FAQ

My coding agent already updates the docs in the same PR. Isn’t that enough? For text, often yes. An agent edits words from the diff; it doesn’t watch the product run. A label that changed in a component three files away, or a flow that now fails at step four, is only found by running the flow.

Isn’t Promptless already a PR check? It acts on the PR and comments on it, which is useful. Per its public docs as of October 2026, it reviews docs text and screenshots; it doesn’t run your product’s flows, give them a verdict, or produce video.
